We are a family run business based in Calderdale. Our sofa business started almost by accident with the sale of a few vintage Chesterfields to help fund the renovations of our home and showroom - Jowler Mill. One thing led to another and here we are!

Our business philosophy is simple. We have one rule - we only sell what we love. It is very important to us that when customers visit they can enjoy beautiful, well-made, quality pieces of furniture that are good value money and will be right for their homes and family. We’re proud to stock beautiful British-made sofas, chairs, footstools, rugs and much more. These are lovingly selected and often designed by us too. If it’s not right for our home, we wouldn’t suggest it for yours. 

As a small independent business we’re keen to reduce waste, using carefully selected premium ‘end of line’ velvets, buttery natural leather hides and traditionally-made Harris Tweed to dress our beautiful sofas, armchairs and footstools. You’ll find items in stock, ready to take away immediately, as well as the ability to order bespoke items if you’ve got something particular in mind. 

Our showroom is situated between Hebden Bridge, Haworth and Halifax in the steep-sided (and stunning) Luddenden Valley. As expected from the rural location, it’s unsuitable for HGV access, but for those of you that make the visit you’ll be greeted with a cuppa (and if we’ve been baking) a slice of chocolate brownie, and best of all - a sofa showroom like no other.

A Showroom That Was Once Our Home

Unlike a typical furniture store, our showroom wasn’t designed as a retail space first. It evolved from our own living space.

When you visit Jowler Mill, you’re not walking into a warehouse or a high-pressure sales floor. You’re stepping into a building that was once our home and we still treat it that way.

Customers are welcomed as guests.

There’s time to sit properly. Time to compare fabrics. Time to talk about room layouts and practicalities. No one is rushed. No one is hovered over.

We believe choosing a sofa, whether it’s a Chesterfield, a leather sofa, or a British-made velvet corner sofa, should be fun, inspiring and comfortable!

We have always had a love of colour - deep velvets, bold tones, heritage tweeds and fabrics that bring warmth and individuality into a room. While we respect classic design, we’re equally drawn to sofas that make a statement. A well-built frame doesn’t have to mean a neutral palette.

Many of our sofas are British-made, built with solid hardwood frames and traditional upholstery methods designed to stand the test of time. We also offer bespoke options, adjusting size, fabric and finish to suit your space, whether you’re looking for a timeless Chesterfield or a bold, colour-led centrepiece.

We are not a fast-furniture retailer. We don’t chase passing trends or bulk turnover. Every piece in our West Yorkshire showroom is there because we would live with it ourselves - and because we believe a sofa should feel both enduring and full of character.
