How to Assemble Your New Sofa: A Step-by-Step Guide

There's nothing better than seeing your new furniture arrive. Most of our sofas are designed to make delivery easier by allowing certain parts to be assembled once they're safely inside your home.

Whether you've ordered a sofa, corner sofa or armchair, this guide will help you get everything set up quickly so you can start enjoying it sooner.

Before You Start

Before assembling your furniture, we recommend:

  • Unwrapping all packaging carefully.
  • Checking that all components have arrived.
  • Keeping the protective packaging until you're happy everything has been assembled correctly.
  • Assembling the furniture on a clean, soft surface to protect the fabric and feet.

Most fixings and components are stored underneath the furniture inside a zipped compartment or attached to the underside of the frame, so it's always worth checking there first.

Step 1: Fit the Sofa Feet

Many sofas and chairs are delivered with the feet packed separately to protect them during transport.

How to fit the feet

  1. Turn or carefully tilt the furniture so you can access the underside.
  2. Locate the feet and fittings stored beneath the sofa.
  3. Identify the correct position for each foot. Some models have different front and rear feet.
  4. Screw each foot firmly into place by hand.
  5. Once fitted, carefully return the furniture to its upright position.

Top Tip: Avoid using power tools when fitting sofa feet, as overtightening can damage the threads.

Step 2: Connect Corner Sofa Sections

If you've purchased a corner sofa, it will normally arrive in separate sections to make delivery much easier.

Connecting the pieces only takes a few moments.

How to connect a corner sofa

  1. Position both sections close together.
  2. Lift the seat cushions where required so you can clearly see the connecting brackets.
  3. Line up the male and female connectors.
  4. Lift one section slightly before sliding the connectors together.
  5. Push both sections together until they lock securely into place.

Once connected correctly, the sofa should feel solid with minimal movement between sections.

Step 3: Check the Support Legs

Many larger sofas feature central support legs underneath the frame.

These are designed to provide additional strength and stability once your sofa is in position.

After assembly:

  • Check every support leg is fully lowered.
  • Ensure each leg is making firm contact with the floor.
  • If an adjustable support leg is fitted, gently rotate it until it just touches the floor.
  • Do not overextend adjustable legs, as they are designed to support the frame rather than lift the sofa.

A properly adjusted support leg helps distribute weight evenly across the frame and supports long-term comfort.

Step 4: Position Your Sofa

Once assembled:

  • Move the sofa into its final position.
  • Check all feet are sitting level.
  • Make sure the furniture is stable before use.
  • Replace the seat and back cushions if they were removed during assembly.

Your sofa may take a little time to settle after delivery, particularly if it features feather-filled cushions.

Common Questions

My corner sofa won't clip together.

Double-check that both sections are perfectly aligned before attempting to connect them. Slightly lifting one section often allows the connectors to slide together more easily.

One support leg isn't touching the floor.

Some sofas feature adjustable centre support legs. Simply adjust the leg until it makes light contact with the floor. It should support the frame, not raise it.

I can't find the feet.

They're usually stored underneath the sofa inside a zipped storage compartment or attached securely to the underside of the frame.
