Don’t Leave the Decisions Until October: Start Planning Your New Sofa Now

Thinking about a new sofa for Christmas, but not quite ready to order?
With Christmas order deadlines for many of our made to order sofas approaching throughout October, September is the perfect time to do the homework.
Order the swatches. Save your favourites. Measure the room. Ask us all those questions.
Then, when it’s time to order, you’ll already know exactly what you want.
Start with the fabric
Sometimes the easiest way to start narrowing down your choices is with the fabric.
A colour that looks beautiful on screen can look completely different once you see it in your own home, alongside your flooring, wall colour, curtains and existing furniture.
That’s why we always recommend ordering fabric swatches if you have time.
Look at your swatches in natural daylight and again in the evening. Put them next to your rug or curtains. See how a velvet catches the light or how a Harris Tweed works alongside the other textures in your room.
If you’re torn between a couple of colours, order both swatches. It’s much easier to make the decision when you can see them in the space where your new sofa will actually live.
Narrow down your sofa shortlist
You don’t necessarily need to know the one straight away.
Start by choosing two or three favourites and think about what you actually want from your sofa.
Do you love a deep, relaxed seat that you can really sink into? Would you prefer a supportive high back? Do you need enough room for the whole family? Would a chaise make better use of your space? Or have you always wanted a traditional Chesterfield?
It’s very easy to fall in love with how a sofa looks, but thinking about how you’ll actually use it can make that final decision much easier.
Save your favourites now and start comparing them.

Measure now, not the day you order
Found a favourite? Get the tape measure out.
Check the sofa dimensions against your room and think about how the proportions will work with your other furniture.
Just as importantly, consider the complete delivery route into your home.
Doors, hallways, staircases, corners and other tight spaces can all make a difference. Doing these checks now means that if you discover a potential access issue, there’s still time to look at different sizes or designs before you order.
